2025 Florida DF Travelers Trophy Regatta February 1-2
February 1-2, 2025, kicked off the DF Travelers Trophy Regatta hosted by The Villages Model Yacht Squadron. Ashland Pond provided a stunning backdrop for two days of racing, though Mother Nature decided to keep things interesting with light and shifty winds. The Race committee was able to complete 11 races on Saturday and 18 heats on Sunday with 9 races scored.
Saturday saw 12 DF 65 boats hit the water, while Sunday brought an even bigger fleet with 24 DF 95s battling it out. Bruce Farr dominated the DF 65 racking up a series of first-place finishes to seal his victory on Saturday. Meanwhile, Peter Feldman cracked the code on the tricky conditions in the DF 95 class, stringing together an impressive run of wins in the afternoon on Sunday. DF65 Skippers Jim Egon and Geoff Becker finished second and third along with DF95 Skippers Geoff Baker and Gary Winton.

2024 The Villages EC12 Gator Regatta
TVMYS proudly hosted yet another spectacular Gator Regatta for the EC12 class! A fleet of 16 boats took to the water, including five talented sailors from our very own club. The weather was picture-perfect, with hazy sunshine, refreshingly cool temperatures, and a steady easterly breeze of 5-15 knots that powered the action-packed races straight down the pond.
In an electrifying finish, our very own Alan Perkins staged a thrilling comeback late on Sunday to clinch the overall victory—proving why he’s one of the best! Hot on his heels, Richard Kahle from Charleston, S.C., took second place, while Jon Luscomb from South Florida rounded out the top three with a strong performance.
Congratulations to all the competitors for making this regatta one to remember! Here’s to more exciting races ahead. Keep an eye on the calendar for the next event—you won’t want to miss it!

Regatta Report - Registration on Wednesday afternoon offered the out of towners a chance to stretch their legs and check their equipment. Thursday morning the competitors were met by a light rain that, fortunately, ended before the skippers meeting. The rain was followed by shifty and intermittent winds—mostly light. The mark-setting crew was kept busy most of the day. For the first time, I can remember, the battery powering the trolling motor was completely depleted. Despite the challenging conditions, sixteen heats, both long enough and challenging enough for a national level regatta, were posted on the scoresheet at the end of the first day. The event was using a two-heat promotion-relegation system. The constantly changing conditions challenged both the race committee and the competitors.
